I met Bob when I saw him waiting at a bus stop off Hennepin Ave in Minneapolis. He was standing alone and as I approached we made eye contact and I knew right then that I needed to meet him. I told him I liked his white hair and beard and thought it was an interesting look. I went into explaining the project but he seemed reluctant to participate at first. He perked up when I mentioned I was shooting the project using film photography and I think that aspect may have helped win him over and he agreed on a portrait.
Bob had a great look in person but it wasn't until I developed the film that I noticed the portrait was in a sea of white with his hair, beard, and stone washed shirt combined with the background that he was standing by. I think this white on white added to the overall look and feel of this image.
I asked Bob where he was headed and he explained that he was on his way to look at some new housing. Bob is retired now but he said a long time ago he used to shoot weddings using film. I thought that was great and we had a fun chat.
